About Carrie
Welcome! I'm Carrie Hankes, and I'm passionate about all things crafting and reading related—especially if it has a historical element. Reading and writing have been my passions since elementary school when I began reading the American Girl and Dear America Books. Knitting, crochet, and other needle arts grabbed my attention when I began working with the public and needed something to do with my hands. There, too, I found a love of historic and historic inspired patterns.
Through the Pens and Needles podcast, I hope to share stories, techniques, and conversations with fellow crafters, readers, and writers who share in my passion for working history into projects. Whether you're looking to learn something new, find feedback on a historic project, or have someone talk while you work, I hope you'll find something here that sparks your creativity.
When I'm not recording episodes or working on projects, you can find me experimenting with new patterns, hunting for the perfect materials or research, or sharing tips with the amazing crafting community!
